Andrew Umlauf, Assistant Director of Intellectual Property– Physical Sciences, Office of Technology Commercialization.
Andrew provides counsel to the Office of Commercialization and Technology for matters involving Intellectual Property. His responsibilities include collaborating with Purdue faculty and students to cultivate and protect intellectual property rights of Purdue research. Andrew is also responsible for managing a patent portfolio in the electrical and mechanical arts. Andrew regularly prosecutes patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Furthermore, Andrew provides legal expertise for software copyright and trade secret protection.
Andrew has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Business Administration from Butler University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University, Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Prior to practicing law, Andrew spent over eight years as a software engineer gaining development and management experience in a broad range technologies and business environments. After law school, Andrew spent five years in a leading intellectual property boutique firm serving Fortune Global 500 clients.
Andrew is admitted to practice in the State of Indiana and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
